My name is Onika Edwards and I am the Manager here at Merchant Square.
I hold an NVQ Level 3 in Childcare and Education, and subsequently gained an Early Years Foundation Degree in Childcare and Education - and I have worked in childcare since 2005. Working with children has always been something that I’ve wanted to do throughout this time. I have developed a keen understanding of what fantastic childcare is all about, and am passionate about providing it. I believe that childcare practitioners have a duty to make sure that they help every child to achieve their full potential, and I fully support my staff team to ensure that we do this.
Here at Merchant Square we provide a warm and welcoming environment, and create a 'home from home' feel for both our parents and children. Merchant Square has been open since August 2015 and during its first year we have a built a wonderful and enthusiastic staff team, providing a stable environment for all.
We occupy a large, purpose built single storey nursery in Paddington, with a wonderful and specially created ‘indoor / outdoor play space’ and the latest play and learning equipment.
It’s hard to find a day nursery in Paddington - or the surrounding area - with wonderful facilities for both indoor and outdoor play. With the whole nursery situated on one level of the building at 3 Merchant Square, our Paddington nursery has both, and we’ve incorporated lots of information about our facilities on our Our Nursery page.
Our philosophy and practice
We’re part of a small group of well-established premium nurseries, all of which are rated ‘Good’ or ‘Outstanding’ by OFSTED for every aspect of their care. We are committed to ensuring that our new Paddington nursery delivers the same high standards, and have taken care to explain our approach to childcare in some detail on our Caring For Your Child page. I think that this is particularly important, as not every Paddington nursery operates in the same way. We explain our ‘Key Person Approach’ and how this enables us to know both you and your child really well – and better meet your child’s needs. We also explain how our nursery and outdoor environments contribute to your child’s development with us.
Here at Merchant Square Day Nursery we understand the importance of a great partnership with parents – and will work closely to ensure that we are meeting your individual needs. I strongly believe in creating warm, caring and friendly environments, where children and their families feel cared for, valued and loved - and where they can genuinely feel at home. As children’s primary educators, the relationships we build with parents are as important as the relationships we build with our children. These relationships create the ‘home from home’ atmosphere that we strive for, and help children to feel safe and secure, leaving them free to immerse themselves in play.
We’ve tried to include as much information as possible here on our website, and you’ll find much of it on our Parent Information page. I believe we’re the only Paddington nursery to open from 7.30am – 6.30pm, Monday – Friday for 51 weeks of the year (we close during Christmas week) and offer a variety of sessions to suit most family’s individual needs at competitive and inclusive prices. We also offer FREE childcare places for ALL 3 and 4 year old children (and many 2 year olds), and include free nappies and wipes and nutritious ‘home cooked’ lunches and teas – the details of which are all explained on this page.
The best day nursery in Paddington
Of course it’s natural to be proud of your nursery when you work with a team who strive to provide wonderful care to children every day - and I’m no exception. I’ll be working tirelessly to ensure that Merchant Square Day Nursery is the best nursery in Paddington, and to ensure that my staff team and I can take pride in the progress that our children make in their development and the extent to which they enjoy their time with us.
Finally, whilst Merchant Square Day Nursery is a Paddington nursery, we also expect to appeal to many parents across London. Whilst we’re convenient for parents living in areas such as Marylebone, Maida Vale, Knightsbridge and Kensington – we hope that you’ll consider us if you work in town and commute into Paddington Railway Station (a 5 minute walk from the nursery). You’ll find a map showing our location on our Contact Us page - as well as our contact details.
If we look as though we could provide a childcare solution for you, then we’d love to see you at the nursery and show you around - so please give us a call or pop in to see us, and meet our team.
